Translating a building's story into illustration

De Brug is an iconic building in Rotterdam that was once used by Unilever. The building is known for its unique construction: a large part of the property floats above existing buildings.

When JEX moved into De Brug, they wanted to give the long corridors in the building more character. This sparked the idea to create something that would not only decorate the space, but also tell the story behind the building.

A piece of history in pictures

During my research, I discovered archival footage showing the unique construction of the building over the existing structure. This moment inspired the illustration.

I translated this architectural history into a sketchy illustration style focusing on the construction and unique character of the building. This created a visual tribute to the architecture and the story behind De Brug.
